Adoption process
Take your time, choose an area/organisation where you would like to adopt from, then view through the list of animals. Once you have chosen one or more, please complete the adoption application form.
We realise that the application form has a few pages, but we care about your well-being and the animals’ and therefore we need to do our due diligence. We recommend you read through the remaining sections to familiarise yourself with the process. Adoption fees must be directly communicated with each area/organisation. Please keep in mind that organisations/inspectors do not make money from adoption fees. It’s just to cover expenses incurred. But the longer an animal stays at a shelter, the higher the costs of care becomes which is never really recovered.
Based on the information provided in the form, we will contact you and invite you to meet the animal in person. Please understand that we will need proof of residence (Physical address), ID and other relevant information if/when required to ensure that your file is captured correctly and up to date on the system.
When adopting a dog, puppy, cat or kitten, once both parties are happy with how the meeting went, the process will proceed to a home-check appointment. The inspection will be conducted by a member of our staff or a volunteer, Field Officer or authorised Animal Inspector.
You will be required to bring with or forward upfront, any live videos of your home and current animals to the person who contacts you for the home check.
If you pass the home check requirements, the adoption process will commence. An appointment will be made for collection of the animal(s). Please note that dog and cat adoptions can sometimes be difficult when it comes to the new adopted animals meeting your current pets. Please ensure that you read through “HOW TO INTRODUCE YOUR NEW PET” before you do it. In the case where pets are not compatible, you are required to contact the organsiation where you adopted from, directly and explain the situation for assistance. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REHOME THE ANIMAL ON YOUR OWN.
Upon collection, the total adoption fee is due and payable. For the first month, we request a once a week update video. For the second to 4th month, we request a once a month update video. Thereafter you are welcome to send updates as often as you like. NB. PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU ADOPT AN ANIMAL FROM ONE OF OUR ORGANSIATIONS, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE THE ANIMAL AWAY, OR REHOME, OR SELL, OR ABUSE/ABANDONE OR NEGLECT IN ANY WAY. IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A DIFFICULT SITUATION TO CARE FOR THE ANIMAL, PLEASE CONTACT THE ORGANISATION OR UNIQUE WELFARE DIRECTLY FOR ASSISTANCE. WE ARE NOT HERE TO JUDGE, WE WILL ASSIST.
